PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for applying shear stress to blood vessel-forming cells constituting a vital blood vessel.;SOLUTION: A model blood vessel system comprises a pump, a model blood vessel unit, and a first liquid tank, the model blood vessel unit having a blood vessel-like structure disposed in a flow path between a liquid inlet port and a liquid outlet port. The system also comprises a tube connected between the first liquid tank and the pump and a tube connected between the pump and the liquid inlet port, and is configured either to return the liquid that has passed through the model blood vessel unit to the first liquid tank by connecting the liquid outlet port and the first liquid tank by a tube, or to store the liquid that has passed through the model blood vessel unit in a second liquid tank as waste liquid by connecting the liquid outlet port and the second liquid tank with a tube. The blood vessel-like structure comprises a vascular smooth muscle cell layer as a lower layer and a vascular endothelial cell layer as an upper layer.
