PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-sensitive recording material capable of forming an image part which causes little ground fogging and has good color developing properties and excellent preservability (especially alcohol resistance and water resistance), and to provide a color developing composition for heat-sensitive recording which achieves the same and a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: There is provide a method for producing a color developing composition for heat-sensitive recording, which comprises a step of reacting 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenylsulfone with an aralkyl halide compound in an aqueous solvent having a water content of 96 mass% or more. Further, the color developing composition for heat-sensitive recording comprises 100 pts.mass of 4-aralkyloxy-4'-hydroxydiphenylsulfone and 0.2 to 10 pts.mass of a compound represented by the following general formula (I).
