PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ballast water treatment apparatus in which unsterilized ballast water does not remain in a pipeline, even when cooling a UV ray lamp.SOLUTION: A ballast water treatment apparatus includes UV ray treatment means for applying sterilization treatment to microorganism contained in ballast water by using UV ray irradiation with a UV ray lamp, and further includes: control means for controlling circulation of ballast water inboard by using driving control of a pump and opening/closing control of an on-off valve, and forming at least one circulation path comprising the UV ray treatment means. In the ballast water treatment apparatus, the control means performs control by sequentially performing the steps of: subjecting ballast water to sterilization treatment by circulating ballast water taken in anew from outboard and not poured into a ballast tank; and turning off power of the UV ray lamp and cooling the UV ray lamp by circulating the sterilized ballast water.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
