Disclosed herein is an approach that provides real-time monitoring of patients for ARDS development and provides a biomarker-driven ventilation therapy recommendation tool based on the correlation between various treatment patterns and ARDS biomarker scores. If the ARDS biomarker indicates that the patient's ARDS risk is high, the recommendation tool suggests possible therapeutic measures based on clinical practice. In response to the high score output by the ARDS detection model, the tool outputs a recommendation to initiate a pulmonary protective ventilation strategy (low tidal volume, high positive end-tidal pressure (PEEP)). A high ARDS score is recognized as predicting the validity of a therapeutic intervention up to several hours before the therapeutic intervention normally initiated under current clinical practice.
