The purpose is to provide a surface modifier for a silicone-based resin having an excellent lipid absorption inhibitory effect, a surface-modified silicone-based resin, a surface-modified contact lens, and a method for manufacturing the above resin and lens. A surface modifier for a silicone-based resin, containing a polymer having 65 mass% or less of the following repeating unit (A) and 35 mass% or more of the following repeating unit (B). (A): a repeating unit having a sulfinyl group in a side chain; and (B): a repeating unit other than the repeating unit (A).
