A method for pre-determining the time profile of contrast agent concentration at a vascular location is provided in connection with contrast-enhanced MRI of the region of interest only during the first influx phase of contrast agent into a vessel located within the region of interest. The The method includes establishing a broadening of the contrast bolus profile by the equation ΔW = W2−W1, where W1 is a first width of the contrast bolus profile at the first blood vessel location; W2 is the second width of the contrast agent concentration profile at the second blood vessel position within the region of interest. The spread is established by determining at least one flow parameter that depends on at least one blood flow characteristic of the patient at that third blood vessel location and correlates with the spread of the contrast agent profile.
