The present invention provides an improved process for recovering CO from an effluent produced by a catalytic rapid pyrolysis (CFP) process. The method includes the steps of: a) providing a first gas phase stream comprising 25-80% CO and at least 15% CO2 in an anhydrous, solid-free state produced by catalytic rapid pyrolysis.
