The objective of the present invention is to provide an engine control system capable of responding to fluctuations in the amount of heat generated by a fuel gas, and to provide an engine equipped with this engine control system, a ship equipped with this engine, and an engine control method. The engine control system (1) is equipped with a fuel gas injection valve (40) that injects fuel into an engine (10) operated with fuel gas, a calorimeter (50) that measures the amount of heat generated by the fuel gas, and a control unit (20) that controls the fuel gas injection valve (40).
