Prior art does not disclose a system that automatically records a predetermined place or position, regardless of any sensor information for preventive maintenance, from characteristic sensor information generated in a predetermined place or zone. A state monitoring device that monitors a car state on the basis of a sensor signal and car position information, said device characterized by comprising: a sensor signal detection unit; a sensor signal threshold determination processing unit; a sensor signal threshold-exceeding zone management unit to which the car position information and the determination result from the sensor signal threshold determination processing unit are input, and which measures the number of times a threshold is exceeded in a predetermined zone; and an automatic-recording zone management unit that determines whether said threshold-exceeding frequency in the predetermined zone exceeds a predetermined frequency, and sets said zone as an automatic-recording zone if said threshold-exceeding frequency exceeds the predetermined frequency.
