The purpose of the present invention is to generate a design proposal which gives a good yield while suppressing the increase in processing time when applying enumeration and carrying out nesting. Provided is a nesting method for generating a proposal for positioning on a parent material by sequentially positioning a plurality of members on the parent material, and generating a design proposal which is configured from a plurality of the proposals for positioning on the parent material, said method comprising: a design proposal generating step (step S500) of, when positioning the next member to be positioned after a positioned member, generating a plurality of proposals for positioning on the parent material in which the next member to be positioned is positioned in a variety of positions upon the parent material which includes the positioned member, and generating proposals for positioning on the parent material in which the next member to be positioned is positioned upon the parent material which does not include the positioned member, thereby generating a plurality of design proposals after the next member to be positioned has been positioned; a design proposal restricting step (step S600) which restricts the design proposals to those in which positioning of subsequent members are carried out, from among the generated plurality of design proposals; and a design proposal selection step (step S800) which, after all the members have been positioned, selects the design proposal with the best yield from among the generated design proposals.
