Evolved Node B, user equipment and method for transition between idle mode and connected mode

An example of an evolved Node B (eNB) and method for transitioning between idle mode and connected mode is disclosed herein. The eNB may receive uplink data packets from the user equipment (UE) using lightweight radio resource control (RRC) between the eNB and the UE. The eNB may send an RRC connection release message to the UE in order to notify the UE transition to the RRC idle mode of the RRC connection. The RRC connection release message may include an indicator as to whether or not the UE stores RRC connection context information. The eNB may further receive further uplink data packets according to the stored context information using the lightweight RRC connection.
