A cutting insert (4) for milling a square shoulder has sides each provided with a main cutting edge connected to an associated wiper blade (22) on an adjacent side of the insert. The side provided with the main cutting edge has two substantially flat non-coplanar support surfaces (23, 24) which are continuous with respect to the direction of extension of the main cutting edge (20). And produce different angles with the normal of the bottom surface (15) of the insert. The boundary (27) that forms the limit of the support surface (23, 24) farthest from the bottom surface (15) is such that the distance from the boundary to the bottom surface is such that the cutting edge (20) faces the wiper blade (22).
