PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a width reduction device capable of positioning accurately a height of a lower buckling prevention roll for preventing buckling, when performing width reduction of a slab; and to provide a width reduction method performed by using the width reduction device.SOLUTION: There is provided a width reduction device having a pair of molds for reducing the width of a slab, and an upper buckling prevention roll and a lower buckling prevention roll liftable independently, for pressing the upper and lower surfaces of the slab conveyed by the molds. The width reduction device of the slab includes a stopper member capable of fixing the height of the lower buckling prevention roll.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
