PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an electrolyte for zinc secondary batteries, which enables the suppression of precipitation of zinc dendrite; and a zinc secondary battery arranged by use of such an electrolyte.SOLUTION: An electrolyte 3 for zinc secondary batteries comprises: a solvent including water and an organic material having a structure expressed by the general formula (1); a hydroxide; and a salt including alkali metal cations and anions. (X represents one functional group selected from an alkyl group, a halogen group, a hydroxyl group, a carboxyl group and an amino group; Y represents H or one functional group selected from alkyl groups.)
