PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption and increase continuous operating time.SOLUTION: A coordinate input system includes: a coordinate instruction unit 13 that includes a light-emitting unit the quantity of emitted light of which is controlled in response to an external instruction, and that is held at an arbitrary position by a user; and a coordinate input unit 400 that includes a plurality of emission detectors 11 detecting light from the light-emitting unit, a coordinate calculation unit calculating coordinates of the light-emitting unit on the basis of the light detected by the emission detectors 11, a coordinate display unit 200 displaying a trajectory of the coordinate instruction unit on the basis of the coordinates calculated by the coordinate calculation unit, and a quantity-of-emitted-light control unit controlling light emission of the coordinate instruction unit 13 in response to the position of the coordinate instruction unit 13 or an emission state of the light-emitting unit.
