PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear tooth surface abnormality detection device capable of improving detection accuracy of presence of abnormality such as formation of protrusions on a gear tooth surface, and a gear tooth surface abnormality detection method.SOLUTION: A master gear 30 having normal tooth 31 having a prescribed tooth thickness and a prescribed shape and corrected gear teeth 35a, 35b, 35c, 35d in which notches 38, 39 are formed on a tooth surface having the same tooth thickness and shape as the normal tooth is engaged with a test object gear 100, and the test object gear 100 and the master gear 30 are rotated. Based on an aspect of variations in an engaged state during the rotation, presence of abnormality in the test object gear 100 is detected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
