A topical composition for treating an inflammatory skin disease in a subject includes a therapeutically effective amount of a biguanidine, and is in a dosage form for topical administration. A method for treating an inflammatory skin disease in a subject includes the following steps: identifying a subject in need thereof; providing a biguanidine; and administering the biguanidine in a therapeutically effective amount to a part of the subject to treat the inflammatory skin disease.
