The present invention relates to a weak meg stream (20) having a first ph level which is in contact with a co2 rich gas stream (40) to yield a weak meg product (50) which has a different and lower second ph level, preferably in the range 6.5 to 7.0. The system and method may be readily incorporated into a meg recovery package mat, with a weak meg flow source (20) being a meg recovery section (30) of the package. the co2 rich gas (40) may be a flow of co2 expelled from the regeneration section of meg (60) of the package. Unlike the overdose of hydrochloric acid and acetic acid, the overdose of co2 from the weak meg stream (20) does not lead to rapid acidification of the weak meg product (50) to be stored or injected.
