The present invention relates to an over-the-counter (OTC) transaction system comprising an operable computing device for sending a transaction request to initiate a transaction; and a server operable to receive an electronic transaction request from a computing device and subsequently generate a unique identifier based on the transaction request received from the computing device based on the unique identifier received from the computing device as part of the transaction; the server is still operable to verify the transaction based on the unique identifier generated; and after verification, processes and informs the computer device a transaction status; wherein verification includes comparing a portion of the unique identifier with the entries of a server-maintained whitelist; and wherein the unique identifier is temporary and is set to expire after a predetermined criterion is met.
