The present invention relates to an associated instrumentation compaction roller which detects the passage of the wheel over a planted precursor. The compaction roller also has a computing device connected to the instrumentation and the seeder speed monitoring device. The computing device determines the spacings between the planted precursors. The data obtained are real-time data readily available to the seeder operator, so that the seeder speed can be adjusted during operation to maintain optimal spacing between precursors.
