The invention relates to strains of trichoderma reesei whose ability to induce cellulase gene promoters is altered. the expression of cellulase by these strains of t. reesei is induced by the presence of an inducing substrate, which has little or no inducing effect on a t strain. unmodified reesei, maintaining the ability to induce cellulases by their inducing substrate.
