an ultrafiltration device for a patient who is overhydrated due to congestive heart failure. The apparatus comprises a dilution syringe (16, 57) for removing a portion of peritoneal fluid from the peritoneal cavity. a glucose pouch (25, 71) comprises glucose concentrate at a concentration of 30%. A small amount of glucose concentrate is mixed with the dilution fluid in the dilution syringe to dilute the glucose concentrate to a concentration of less than 3%. The mixture is then filled into the peritoneal cavity of the dilution syringe to replenish glucose in the peritoneal cavity to maintain a substantially constant glucose concentration in the peritoneal cavity. In addition, peritoneal fluid is intermittently removed from the peritoneal cavity to counteract increased intraperitoneal fluid volume and increased intraperitoneal pressure due to ultrafiltration. a puffer bag (24, 55) is arranged to receive such excess peritoneal fluid. a glucose syringe (59) may be arranged to measure the glucose concentrate.
