The present invention is directed to a method and a kit for the inactivation of acid-resistant bacteria. in some embodiments, the method may include: transferring a sample of a liquid culture containing acid-resistant bacteria to a first tube, wherein the first tube comprises a body, a first end to the body having an opening, and a second extremity to the body having a frustoconical portion ending at a concave tip; centrifuge the tube to concentrate the acid-resistant bacteria on the concave tip and subsequently decant a supernatant; resuspension of alcohol-acid-resistant bacterial bacterial concentrate; transfer the suspension to a second tube containing beads; shake the second tube to break up the cells of acid-resistant bacteria; and incubating the suspension to inactivate the acid-resistant bacteria in the test sample. The method may also include identifying acid-resistant bacteria with mass spectrometry.
