The present invention provides peptides which comprise a sequence homologous to a portion of the third covalently linked epsilon heavy chain constant domain of the ige or to (1) a carrier protein, or (2) a helper cell epitope, optionally also. to other immunostimulatory sequences. The present invention discloses the use of such peptides as immunogens to result in mammalian production of high titrated polyclonal antibodies which are specific for a target effector site in the epsilon ige heavy chain. Peptides should be useful in pharmaceutical compositions to provide immunotherapy for ig-mediated allergic diseases.
