A method of cultivating marine protists, especially microorganisms of the genus Thraustochytriales, in a medium containing a waste saline solution from the demineralization of milk whey

A method of cultivating microorganisms of the genus Thraustochytriales consists in using a waste saline solution from the process of demineralization of milk whey as a part of the cultivating medium. The growth of model microorganisms Schizochytrium limacinum PA968 and Japonochytrium sp. AN4 in the saline waste medium was comparable to the growth in a complex medium. The invention submitted therefore provides a novel and cost-effective method of cultivating microorganisms of the genus Thraustochytriales.
