The invention is intended to save energy spent by an independent unit of railway rolling stock, e.g., a diesel locomotive, for performance of train service or shunting operations, when train service is carried out in an automatic mode or in an assistance-to-driver mode. The technical result achieved by utilization of energy-optimized independent railway rolling stock control consists in lower energy consumption for train traction. The technical result is attained by determining energy-optimized control of independent railway rolling stock for each coordinate of the independent railway rolling stock route: the control action value is calculated with consideration for loss of power spent of operation of auxiliary equipment to provide minimum total energy consumption. The method for energy-optimized independent railway rolling stock control includes the following steps: independent railway rolling stock parameters are obtained including at least speed, coordinate, value of control action; for each track coordinate, energy-optimized control to be implemented by traction and braking equipment of the independent railway rolling stock is determined on the basis of maximum on-rail tractive power of the independent railway rolling stock; the energy-optimized control determined at the previous step is transmitted to the control system of the independent railway rolling stock for performance or display to the locomotive driver.
