A method and system of routing a data packet across a plurality of nodes in an ad-hoc network is disclosed, wherein each node is a device that has computing and wireless communication broadcasting and receiving capabilities. The method includes identifying a first set of next nodes for a base node as a process of identifying path from a source node to a destination node, each next node of the first set being connected to the current node through at most one node, shortlisting a second set of next nodes from the first set, wherein lifetime of each link corresponding to the second set is greater than or equal to an average lifetime, shortlisting a third set of next nodes from the second set based on optimal cost metric of each link corresponding to the second set, and identifying a final node for receiving the data packet from the current node, wherein the final node is identified based on a line rate and round trip time (RTT) of each link corresponding to the third set.
