ABSTRACT The present invention relates to the production of quench and partitioned steel with dual phase microstructure, which contains two new steels (Steel B and C) designed by varying the C, Mn, Si and Al alloy contents. The two steels were austenitized for 1 hr, quenched below MS temperature and were partitioned above MS for 1 min. Both Q&P steels have shown two phase microstructure of martensite and retained austenite which was confirmed by XRD and FESEM analysis. The designed two steels with different alloying elements lead to more formation of martensite and retained austenite to produce better strength and ductility. The heat treatment cycle was also designed in such a way to avoid the formation of ferrite and pearlite that leads to reduction in strength.
