A power production system for a hybrid electric vehicle comprising a micro-gas turbine integrated with electric motor/generators and at least two high temperature fuel cells, solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC). The system has the capability of generating power efficiently and with low to negligible emissions in which at low and medium power requirements all of the power needed by the hybrid vehicle is generated efficiently in the fuel cells and in high power mode molten carbonate fuel cell is shifted to be used in bottoming position to remove CO2 from the system exhaust when the system is running in high power mode. All these modes of power production are seamlessly linked to each other. Such an efficient power generation system can also be used as electric power source in other transportation system such as but not limited to aircraft auxiliary power units, ships, military vehicles, yachts, trains and heavy equipment.
