The present disclosure is related to a copyright protection system for digital images that uses watermarking processes with the ability of detecting illegally distributed physical or digital copies, as well as a digital level robust authentication feature. Three different watermarks are inserted, one of the visible type, another of the camouflage type, and another of the invisible type, obtaining approximately 46 [dB] of Signal to Noise Ratio of the marked image regarding to the original image. The detection of an illegally distributed physical or digital copy is performed by the visual inspection of the camouflage watermark using a secret key containing its location. Subsequently, in a digital context, the source of illegal distribution is detected by the invisible watermark information previously inserted in the illegally distributed and possibly altered marked image, obtaining approximately 2.9357x10-8 of false positive error. Detecting correctly the distribution source of illegal copies, even when the digital image has been subjected to intentional processing to remove the digital protection; thus obtaining average erroneous bit rates of less than 0.2.
