The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a silicon oxide-coated oxide composition for coatings in which reflectance and other color characteristics are controlled; and a method for producing a coating composition that contains oxide particles and that is to be mixed into a paint constituting a coating body in which weather resistance is required. Provided is a silicon oxide-coated oxide composition for coatings in which weather resistance is required, said silicon oxide-coated oxide composition for coatings containing silicon oxide-coated oxide particles in which at least part of the surface thereof is covered by a silicon oxide. The silicon-oxide coated oxide composition for coatings is characterized in that the silicon oxide thereof is amorphous so that it is possible to control the color characteristics of the silicon-oxide coated oxide composition for coatings. Also provided is a method for producing a coating composition characterized in that the color characteristics of the abovementioned oxide particles are controlled by choosing the following when producing the oxide particles: whether to include amorphous silicon oxide that covers at least part of the surface of the oxide particles; and whether to include an acetyl group that functions as a functional group included in the silicon oxide-coated oxide particles.
