despite the efforts made, hydatidosis is still a public health problem, and in several countries around the world.surgery remains the reference treatment for this disease.however, the recurrence of hydatidosis is a risk factor that is induced by the release of hydatid fluid during surgery.to address this risk, the use of agents scolicides is necessary. however, the scolicides agents currently in use are not effective, and have many side effects.our work is to study the effect of the essential oil of scolicide & protoscolex of echinococcus granulosus in.the extract was tested at different concentrations and for different times of incubation. the viability of the protoscolex was verified by vital staining with eosin (0.1%).a total scolicide was achieved at the concentration range of 1 to 3 mg / ml, and this at a time of about 5 to 10 minutes.these results are in favor of using essential oil & scolicide promising agent.our study is the first investigation of the in vitro activity of the essential oil scolicide thymus capitatus.the activity could be related to the study scolicide oxygenated monoterpenes found in the essential oil extracted from the leaves of thymus capitatus.
