THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING HYDROXYAPATITE BIOCERAMIC THAT ARE PARTICULARLY USEFUL AND UNIQUE FOR USE AS ORTHOPAEDIC IMPLANTS. THE HYDROXYAPATITE BIOCERAMIC IS PREPARED BY REACTING CALCIUM HYDROXIDE WITH ORTHOPHOSPHORIC ACID, THE MOLAR RATIO OF CALCIUM IONS TO PHOSPHORUS CONTAINING IONS IS ABOUT 1:0.6 AND THE RATIO OF CALCIUM HYDROXIDE SOLUTION TO ORTHOPHOSPHORIC ACID SOLUTION BEING AT LEAST 1.88, WHEREBY A PRECIPITATE OF PURE, NONA-CRYSTALLINE HYDROXYAPATITE (HA) IS FORMED. THE DERIVED HYDROXYAPATITE POWDER IS THERMALLY STABLE WHEN CONVENTIONALLY SINTERED IN AIR ATA TEMPERATURE BETWEEN 800°C-1400°C AND/OR BY USING RAPID FIRING TECHNIQUES SUCH AS MICROWAVE PROCESSING AND PLASMA PRESSURE COMPACTION. ALSO DESCRIBED IS A PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING HYDROXYAPATITE BIOCERAMIC WHICH UTILIZES SINTERING ADDITIVE OF MANGANESE OXIDE (MNO₂) IN THE AMOUNT BETWEEN 0.05-1 WT%.
