A COMPUTER IMPLEMENTED METHOD FOR OPTIMISED FACE BIOMETRICS AUTHENTICATION IS PROVIDED. THE METHOD INCLUDES LOCALISATION OF FACE (102) THAT CONFIRMS IF THERE ARE ANY FACES IN AN IMAGE, FOLLOWED BY LOCATING PLACE OF THE FACE; EXTRACTION OF FACIAL FEATURES (104) FROM THE LOCATED FACE OF STEP (102), FOLLOWED BY GENERATION OF A MATRIX OF WAVELET COEFFICIENTS; PRE-PROCESSING (106) OF THE LOCATED FACE IMAGE BY USE OF N-MEANS KERNEL TO REDUCE EFFECT OF ILLUMINATION BY INCREASING IMAGE BRIGHTNESS AND DECREASE IMAGE NOISE; CLASSIFICATION (108) TO COMPUTE AT LEAST ONE SIMILARITY BETWEEN EXTRACTED FEATURES AND STORED TEMPLATE FEATURES IN A DATABASE; WHEREIN THE CLASSIFICATION IS BASED ON A HIERARCHICAL K-NEAR TO MEAN CLUSTER ALGORITHM AND; VERIFICATION (110) BASED ON RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE CLASSIFICATION (108); THE VERIFICATION CONFIRMS IF TO ACCEPT OR REJECT A CLAIM OF IDENTIFICATION.
