NATURAL COATING COMPOSITION FROM AQUAEOUS AVERRHOA CARAMBOLA L.

The present utility model is a composition of natural coating from aqueous starfruit (Averrhoa carambola L) leaf extract comprising of 50 grams Averrhoa carambola L. leaves and 5 liters distilled water. It was tested that the natural coating extended the shelf life of fresh vegetables particularly tomatoes and string beans. The process of producing the natural coating consist of cutting or slicing the leaves of the starfruit into small pieces and percolated separately with distilled water, ethanol, and acetic acid as extractants. Every gram of the plant material was added with 10 milliliter of the solvent and the mixtures were percolated overnight or for 24 hours. The mixtures were then filtered. The corresponding filtrates were diluted to 1 pcnt concentration as coating solutions.
