A method of determining whether a sputum sample contains dysplastic or carcinómicas, the method comprising: obtaining a sputum sample suspected of containing dysplastic cells or carcinómicas, the method comprising human patient: marking the sample sputum 0.05 -4.0 ug / ml of TCPP in an aqueous alcohol solution isopropyl alcohol between 50% and 90% at a pH between 6.0 and 10.5 to stain cells suspected of being dysplastic or carcinómicas; excite the sample marked sputum with a wavelength of excitation from a light source having a controlled emission rate for a wavelength of approximately 475 nm light of +/- 30nm; focusing a image recorder in the plasma membrane of i) one or more cells suspected of being dysplastic or carcinómicas and ii) normal cells to capture an image of i) and ii) a detector having pixels capable of quantifying flow photons at any given detector pixel, wherein the detector comprises a CCD; detecting within the sputum sample emission at approximately 560 nm +/- 30 nm of cells identified as macrophages; detecting emission at approximately 655 nm +/- 30 nm, if present, to cells labeled with TCPP of the sputum sample after focusing on the plasma membrane of i) one or more cells suspected of being dysplastic or carcinómicas and ii ) normal cells; measuring the flow of ions in each pixel of the detector to obtain a quantitative value for the cell images; and an appropriately programmed rate with the measured quantitative value for determining whether a cell is cancerous or dysplastic using a preferential binding of TCPP to the cancer cell or dysplastic compared to the noncancerous cell processor.
