A method for detecting free light chains (CLL) or intact immunoglobulins in a sample comprising incubating the sample with the anti CLL antibody, or specific heavy chain class-light chain type antibodies, or fragments of said antibodies, and an amount known of intact CLL or immunoglobulin and detecting antibody binding with the known amount of CLL or immunoglobulin, characterized in that the method comprises the steps of: (i) mixing the serum sample with anti-CLL antibody, or class-specific antibodies heavy chain10 type of light chain, or a fragment thereof; (ii) incubating the serum sample with the anti-CLL antibody or heavy chain class specific antibodies, or fragments thereof to form an incubated mixture; (iii) measure the optical absorbance or dispersion of a light source of the incubated mixture to produce a control reading; (iv) mixing a predetermined amount of coated particles with a known amount of intact CLL or immunoglobulin, with the incubated mixture; (v) measuring the complex formation of the particles coated with the anti-CLL antibody or heavy chain-type specific antibodies, or fragments thereof; and (vi) compare complex formation with a predetermined calibration curve of complex formation with known concentrations of intact CLL or immunoglobulin.
