A process for making a chewing gum containing nicotine, said process containing the steps of i. dispensing a portion of a powder comprising gum base, ii. optionally forming said powder portion in a powder aggregate, iii. and applying sufficient electromagnetic energy (EM energy) to the dust portion or dust aggregate to transform said powder portion or said powder aggregate into nicotine-containing chewing gum, wherein said EM energy is radiofrequency energy (RF), energy microwave (MW), Infrared (IR) or Ultraviolet (UV) energy or combinations thereof, preferably radio frequency (RF) energy, the combination of RF energy and IR energy, the combination of RF energy and MW energy, and the combination of RF energy and IR energy and MW energy.
