A surgical implant, comprising: a self-expanding stent (12000) comprising grid segments (12010, 12013, 12014, 12030, 12040), the self-expanding stent (12000) having a wall with a wall thickness; and a selectively adjustable assembly in the self-expanding stent (12000), which has adjustable elements (12020), and which is operable to force a configuration change in at least a part of the self-expanding stent (12000), characterized in that the grid segments (12010, 12013, 12014, 12030, 12040) are formed entirely of a piece of shape memory material; and the adjustable elements (12020) of the selectively adjustable assembly are located within the wall thickness of the self-expanding stent (12000).
