The present invention relates to drug-eluting articles withmultiple polymeric coatings arranged and constructed toprovide improved drug release profiles. Specifically, thepresent invention relates to drug-eluting articles that eachcomprises a substrate, a first polymeric layer over saidsubstrate, and a second polymeric layer over said firstpolymeric layer. The first polymeric layer comprises at least afirst biocompatible polymer and at least a firstpharmacologically active compound that is encapsulated in thefirst biocompatible polymer. The second polymeric layercomprises at least a second biocompatible polymer having adegradability that is higher than that of the first biocompatiblepolymer.
