Process for detecting a neuronal cell damage of a subject comprising: measuring an amount of at least one neuron specific biomarker in a biological sample collected from the subject, where the synthesis of said biomarker is altered after neuronal cell damage in the subject; and detecting a neuronal cell damage depending on the amount of said at least one biomarker in such biological sample, wherein said biomarker is an autoantibody directed to GFAP or degradation products thereof; wherein said neuronal cell damage is caused by traumatic brain injury (TBI).
