The invention relates to methods and compositions for identifying and forselecting maize plants with mechanicalstalk strength characteristics. The methods use molecular markers to identifyand select plants with increased mechanical stalkstrength or to identify and counter-select plants with decreased mechanicalstalk strength. Maize plants generated by the methodsof the invention are also a feature of the invention.
