The present invention relates to methods for providing a set of symbolsuniquely distinguishing an organism.Specifically, the present invention relates to such method comprising a)providing, in a predetermined order, a number of parame-tersof said biological characteristic of said sample and their correspondingestablished values, wherein the combination of saidvalues is uniquely distinguishing said sample; b) translating eachcorresponding established value of said number of parametersinto a single character unique for that individual, established, correspondingvalue of a particular parameter of said biologicalcharacteristic; c) converting said single character into a computer readablecode; d) combining said computer readable codes ofsaid single characters into a single string; e) dividing said single stringinto a set of consecutive segments of a predeterminedlength; and f) transforming said set of consecutive segments into a set ofsymbols uniquely distinguishing said biological sample;wherein said predetermined order of said number of parameters of saidbiological characteristic, and the corresponding establishedvalues of step (a) is maintained.
