A brace device for the spinal support of a wearer. The brace device comprisescomponent parts being moveable relative to at least one other component part,amovement sensing means for monitoring the relative movement of at least onecomponent part compared to at least one other component part and generatingoutputsignals indicative of said movement or change therein, a movement resistingmeans onat least one of said component parts for prohibiting, restricting and/orresistingmovement of at least one of the component parts relative to at least one othercomponent part, and a control means programmed to interpret and/or analyzeoutputsignals of the movement sensing means within predetermined parameters and/orcriteria and provide dynamic control signals to the movement resisting meanswhen thecontrol means determines a movement or change therein requires at leastpartialimmobilization of at least part of the wearer's spine.
