PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF OSB WOOD-BASED BOARDS WITH REDUCED EMISSION OF VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS (VOCS)

This invention concerns a process for the treatment of wood strands suitablefor themanufacture of OSB boards, in which the wood strands are treated with steamwithout dryingafter extraction, the steam being passed over the wood strands at atemperature between 80°Cand 120°C and a pressure between 0,5 bar and 2 bar. The presentinvention also concerns aprocess for the production of OSB wood-based boards, in particular OSB wood-based boardswith reduced emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), comprising thesteps of a)producing wood strands from suitable wood logs; b) treating at least part ofthe wood strandswith steam; c) drying the steam-treated wood strands; d) gluing the steam-treated and driedwood strands and gluing the non-steam-treated wood strands with at least onebinder; e)scattering the glued wood strands onto a conveyor be and f) pressing theglued wood strandsinto an OSB wood-based board.
