The present invention discloses apparatuses and methods for co-reference resolution, information extraction and similar document retrieval. The apparatus for co-reference resolution comprises: a unit configured to acquire a first medical entity and a second medical entity from an input medical document; a unit configured to detect, from the medical document, a diagnosis state of the first medical entity, at least one property of the first, a diagnosis state of the second medical entity and at least one property of the second medical entity; a unit configured to determine compatibility between the first medical entity and the second medical entity based on the detected diagnosis states and properties; and a unit configured to determine whether the first medical entity and the second medical entity indicate to an identical medical object or not based on the determined compatibility. Taking advantage of the present invention, the accuracy of the co-reference resolution will be improved.
