An LCD display device (1), a quantum dot based backlight module (10) and a manufacturing method therefor. The backlight module (10) uses an edge-lit structure; a backlight source (107) emitting monochromatic light is arranged at one side of a light guide plate (100); a plurality of recessed portions (101) are formed on a lower surface of the light guide plate (100); and a transparent dielectric layer (103) doped with bicolour quantum dots (104) and a metal reflecting layer (106) are successively coated in the recessed portions (101). Therefore, the structure of a light guide plate (100) is optimised, so that monochromatic light emitted by a monochromatic light source (107) is mixed with bicolour quantum dots (104) of the light guide plate (100), and same then emits white light. By means of the excellent light-emitting properties of quantum dots, the wave length distribution of light rays emitted by a light guide plate (100) is improved, the colour gamut performance of a display panel is improved, and thin transparent display is realised.
