Provided in the embodiments of the present disclosure are a method, a device and a system for monitoring a far-end net element. The method comprises: using a data communication network (DCN) monitoring channel to send a normal private message so as to acquire the description information of a far-end net element; and sending, when it is necessary to control the far-end net element, a private configuration message so as to modify the description information of the far-end net element. The technique of maintaining a far-end net element provided in the embodiments of the present disclosure multiplexes the DCN channel between net elements, uses private messages to transfer query and configuration information, and can accomplish fault location and recovery of a far-end net element as long as the physical channel between net elements has no fault.
