SELECTING A CLINICALLY RELEVANT X-RAY IMAGE OF A SERIES OF IMAGES

The present invention relates detecting an X-ray image of a series of images, sequential in time. In order to automatically select the most relevant X-ray image from the X- ray series, an electronic X-ray image analysis device is provided that comprises an image data interface unit prepared for providing X-ray image data representing a series of X-ray images, sequential in time. Further, the device comprises a processing unit programmed to (i) apply an edge detection algorithm to an amount of images of a series provided by the interface unit at least in a region of interest; (ii) determine the respective amount of white of images resulting from step (i) at least in a region of interest; and (iii) rank images according to their respective amount of white resulting from step (ii). Further, data output unit is configured to provide a selection of the images according to the ranking.
