A method for inserting a sound effect while playing back music and a music playback device, the method comprising: recording a screen prompt time matching a music playback time node, as well as a first sound effect and a second sound effect which match the screen prompt time (S101); pushing a screen prompt to a user according to the music playback time node and the screen prompt time while playing back music (S102); detecting whether the user inputs an instruction within a specific time after the screen prompt is pushed (S103); if yes, recording an input action of the user as a successful input, while playing back the first sound effect (S104); if not, recording a lack of an input action of the user as an unsuccessful input, while playing back the second sound effect (S105); and counting the number of successful inputs and the number of unsuccessful inputs after the music stops, and pushing a counting result to the user (S106). Said method generates different sound effects according to an input mode of a user, thus creating an effect of "playing together" for the user, thereby enhancing the musical experience for the user.
